Hi folks,

After the flurry of spring activity, by the summer solstice, things have mellowed. I’m almost done planting and now firmly spending the afternoons at the beach.

We are happy to announce that we are now offering summer and fall flower subscriptions for Port Townsend. You can now get weekly flowers from now until frost! Yahoo! It’s perfect for your office or business too.

Things blooming that I’m currently in love with:

• Roses. My fav being the rambler from an old homestead site in Eaglemount, and wowza, is she vigorous! I (Roses in the bottom of the photo above.) If you want me to dig you up a chunk - let me know. At this rate, she will swallow up the whole row. (And I wouldn’t be mad about it.)

• Martagon lilies. What a magical, fairy flower. Perfect in a dappled shade border.

• Campanula. There are SO many kinds of campanula. They grow so easily and freely. Maybe too freely?! A must in any Pacific Northwest garden.

Reading: “The Fullness of Time: Marking the Day by Birdsong, Blooms, Shadows and Stars,” by Cathy Haynes. I’m loving this dive into the rhythms of the natural world that have helped humans make sense of time.

Listening to: The Ezra Klein Show; in this episode, “I Keep Telling People We’re Living in This Dystopian Novel”, he speaks with author Gary Shteyngart about finding pleasure in our dystopian world.

Eating: Purple Sugar Magnolia snap peas from the farm. I’m never going back to green snap peas. And cherries. So many cherries. (Kai has been back East working on my parents’ house - there have been slim pickings around here in terms of cooking. Cooking for yourself is tough! 🤣)

Drinking: Benoît Lahaye, Blanc de Noir. (Grand cru Pinot Noir). Kai says he grows biodynamically, plows with a draft horse, and is one of the best young champagne makers out there. You could get this beauty at the PT Coop until recently. You should ask for it back!

• Seaside Sauna. New sauna in town at Point Hudson. I’m in love!
