Hi folks,

It’s spring and things are racing a million miles a minute. I go from “there’s not enough flowers” to “THERE’S TOO MANY flowers” with the first warm spell.

An important reminder: this Sunday, May 10th, is Mother’s Day!

If you need flowers, this is what we’ve got going on:

• In Port Townsend: Deliveries are happening, and the farm stand will be open Saturday and Sunday, 9 am -7 pm for grab-and-go. Cash or Venmo.

• In Seattle: Kai will be manning the Phinney Ridge pop-up on Saturday, May 9th, from 10 am - 2 pm. You can pre-order here, or just come by. (And get some goodies from DBWC & Ben’s Bread while you are at it.)

• I’ve opened a few more CSA spots for the Late Spring share in Capitol Hill, Phinney and Port Townsend. A flower gift that keeps on giving. Get them while you can.

What else is good at the moment?

To eat: Duck egg- fresh pasta or duck egg home-made mayonnaise. We are rolling in duck eggs! (Let me know if you want to give them a try!) I love the richness that duck eggs bring to these recipes. But you could also use a really good, farm-fresh chicken egg. The point is - fresh and homemade is miles better than store-bought. I don’t think I can ever go back to Hellman’s again. 🤣

To listen: Singing with Nightingales. In the April edition of Found Sounds, an element on the As the Season Turns podcast, musicians get together each spring to experience the magic of nightingales in the wild - and sing alongside them. Pure magic.

To drink: Viñátigo Listán Blanco de Canarias from Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. Kai tried this at a recent tasting and loved it. (Here are his notes: preserved lemon, Nootka rose, saline, very savory) And as luck would have it, he’s brought it into the PT Coop, and Doe Bay Wine Co. has the rosé version in their Phinney shop.

A quick note - we are taking a break after the M-Day hustle. No CSA next week. Back the following week, May 19th.

Finally, I’m working on a date for an open farm day for CSA members and YOU (friends of the farm). Would you come? Walk the fields, enjoy the ducks, eat some snacks, taste some wine (thanks to Kai), and listen to some music? Let me know, and it will encourage me to pick a date. I’m thinking late June.
