What flowers are in season in mid-spring in Port Townsend?
“A LITTLE MADNESS IN THE SPRING IS WHOLESOME.” -Emily Dickinson, from a poem in a letter to Susan Huntington
Here are some of the flowers blooming in mid-spring (mid-April through mid-May) in the Olympic Peninsula. This is not an exhaustive list, but rather a starting point to help you with some ideas and the things I grow on my farm.
Mid-spring is about the green promise of the year ahead. It means woodland flowers like hellebore, delicate epimedium, fragrant poet’s narcissus, the last of the tulips, the first of the peonies, and lupine. Lilac season. The old-fashioned rambling roses. Earliest sweet peas.
